James Alexander Diaz McDermott, known professionally as Alex Diaz, is a Canadian/Filipino Actor, Performer and TV Personality who began his professional career in The Philippines in 2013, launched as part of the highly publicized Star Magic Circle Batch 2013.
McDermott has played supporting roles in a number of Philippine Film & TV Productions, including Got To Believe (2013), Bagito (2015), She's Dating The Gangster (2014), Dagsin (2016), Just The Way You Are (2015) and Wansapanataym (2016), as well as lead roles in Carpool (2019), Oh Mando! (2020), My Fantastic Pag-ibig: My Fairy Tail Romance (2021) and the US-Produced movie-musical, Glitter & Doom. McDermott stars in the title role of Glitter, alongside Alan Cammish, Ming-Na Wen, Missi Pyle, Tig Notaro and Lea Delaria.
McDermott is also set to appear in Blue Fox & The Integritas Group's upcoming suspense/thriller, Counterplay, as James Alexander.
Apart from television, McDermott has also appeared in the 2017 Globe Live Philippine adaptation of Disney's Newsies as Racetrack Higgins and has released original music, including hit songs: "Hide Away" (2017) and "Dulo" (2018) under Cornerstone Music.
McDermott was born in Angeles City, Pampanga, to Filipina mother Jean Diaz McDermott and Scottish-Irish entrepreneur Michael Alexander McDermott. At the age of 2, Alex immigrated to Alberta, Canada, where he was raised until returning to The Philippines in 2007 to finish his studies and begin his professional acting career. Michael and Jeannie divorced while McDermott was in high school and Jeannie now resides in Canada as a medical front-liner. Michael is currently a director and shareholder of Philippine-based Film, TV & Media Corporation, The Integritas Group (TIG) and Soil Stabilization Company, Roadpacker Group Ltd.
Prior to his career in acting, in 2012, McDermott interned as a Radio Jock at Monster Radio RX 93.1. He is trained in a number of dance styles, including Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Tap, Jazz and Ballet and has experience in Gymnastics, Wakeboarding and Tae Kwon Do, having attained his Black Belt at the age of 12.
He is currently managed by Kyle Dean of McKeon/Myones Entertainment (US) and Mac Merla of Cornerstone Talent Management (Philippines).
