Mikayla (pronounced mai/kay/luh) is an American actress and activist native to San Diego raised in Norfolk, Virginia by two United States Navy veterans. An award winning actor and activist, part of the Tony Award winning team at the Broadway Advocacy Coalition and known for her work in theatre, television and film. Her career began with a hope to change the landscape of Black femme representation in media. Since then, Mikayla has portrayed the eldest Williams sister Yetunde Price in the Academy Award winning film King Richard, has become a two time NAACP Award winner, led two globally acclaimed short films, Dear Mama (SXSW) and Pure (HBOMax), has worked both within the Broadway, Off-Broadway and regional circuit at theatres such as the noted Signature Theatre, the National Black Theatre and more. Her feet remain planted in the community as an Artist Ambassador for the NYCLU and working as a facilitator and staff of the Broadway Advocacy Coalition, the 2020 Special Tony Award honoree for their work to combat institutional racism within and beyond the theatre industry. She's helped to launch forums such as Broadway for Black Lives Matter... Again, The Miseducation, and And Still I Write: A Workshop Dedicated to Black Girls, Reimagining Equitable Productions, Group Play, the Arts in Action Festival and more. She holds a BFA in Theatre Performance with minors in pre-nursing and Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University.
